Nelda “Big” Smith, 89, of Littlefield, went to be with her Lord Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 in Littlefield. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Littlefield,with Joey Zahn officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born Sept. 9, 1928 in Olton, to Guy and Alice Willis. Nelda moved from Olton to Littlefield in 1947. She married Alvis Rex Bowen on June 17, 1948 in Littlefield. He died in 1963. On Nov. 18, 1965, Nelda married Billy Smith. He died in 2003. Nelda worked at the First National Bank for many years, where she was Vice President; and she was later employed at John Roley’s AutoCenter. Nelda was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Littlefield, where she served as treasurer and was a part of the hand bells and choir for many years. She was very plugged in to the Littlefield community, helping many organizations and clubs, including helping to plan and organize the Littlefield 75th Diamond Jubilee Celebration, and was also awarded “Woman of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters. She is survived by her three daughters, Janabeth Bowen of Littlefield, Donarex Bowen Hutchins and husband, Max, of Littlefield, and Julie Smith Dillard and husband, Scott, of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Zach Dillard of Austin, Zane Dillard of Lubbock, Beth and Kevin Campbell of Littlefield and Emily and Carl Miller of Littlefield; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Campbell of Lubbock, Colton Campbell of Littlefield and Reece and Rylee Miller, both of Littlefield; and a sister, Lucille Bryant of Olton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to “The Big Wildcat” in memory of Nelda “Big” Smith at AimBank.
