Wildcats drop heartbreaker to Friona

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team dropped a heart breaker to the Friona Chieftains, 42-28, as their comeback efforts fell short.

The Wildcats fall to 1-6 overall, 0-2 in district play.

Friona opened the contest with a big return from Marco Maldonado, starting their first drive at the Wildcats 41-yard line.

Maldonado carried the ball on first down and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on sophomore defensive end, Daniel Stinson, moving the ball down to the 23-yard line.

Sergio Flores carried the ball on first and second down giving the Chieftains a first and goal at the Littlefield seven-yard line.

Flores punched it in on the next play for a Friona touchdown with 10:40 to play in the first quarter. The PAT by Flores was no good, leaving the score, 6-0.
