In Loving Memory Of Elsie Lovell Harlan

Oct. 30, 1940 - Sept. 1, 2017 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Elsie Harlan, age 76, of Littlefield will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Littlefield with the Reverend Ruth E. Clendenin officiating. A private service for entombment was at Resthaven Mausoleum in  Lubbock  under  the  direction  of  Hillcrest  Funeral  Home  of Littlefield. Mrs. Harlan passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017 in her home  in  Littlefield, Texas.    She  was  surrounded  by  her  loving caregivers and friends after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born on October 30, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was accompanied in birth by her identical twin sister, Helen (Lovell) Gilliam, who lives in Austin, Texas.  Elsie and Helen spent most of their formative years in Mississippi, but also attended Virginia Intermont boarding school for women in Bristol, VA from 1956-1957. They both met and married dentists from Texas on June 21, 1958 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Elsie  married  Dr.  Ronald  Harlan,  who  practiced  dentistry  in Littlefield, Texas from 1964 until 2005.  They were married 47 years and raised their three children, Bruce Harlan (Littlefield, TX), Lanelta Harlan  (Littlefield, TX), and Hillary Harlan (Pittsburgh, PA), in Littlefield and were active in the community as well as their church. Both Elsie and Ronald were Deacons and Elders of the First Presbyterian Church of Littlefield. Dr. Harlan preceded his loving wife in death, January 2006.  Elsie was extremely involved with the youth programs over the years including, but not limited to, youth choir, vacation bible school, the After-School Program, and her personal favorite, the annual Christmas Pageant.  She dedicated countless hours to the church and to her church family and they have been a stronghold for her and her family throughout the years. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty Lovell, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, as well as her beloved brother, S. Mark Lovell of Dallas, TX. Elsie is survived by her three children as well as seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
