Members of the family of Uvaldo Rivera, Sr., who is holding a “Life Saving Award” plaque, gathered together Friday evening for a fund-raising brisket meal at the Olton Ag Pavilion.

The plaque was donated after the meal, to Pablo Peralez, who rushed into the burning home of the Rivera family on Saturday, July 29, and helped 78-year-old Uvaldo Rivera, Sr. to safety.

The plaque reads: “We hereby honor Pablo Peralez (of Olton) for his actions that saved the life of our father on Saturday, July 29, 2017. On that day Pablo “unhesitatingly” went into a burning structure to save Don Valdo. Your heroic actions will always be remembered. Presented August 2017 by the family of Uvaldo Rivera, Sr.” Seated beside him is his brother, Pablo Rivera, and behind them are their families.
