Howard Varner, 67, of Littlefield, died on Friday, July 14, 2017. He was born January 13, 1949 in Monahans, TX to Sylvester and Juanita Varner. Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Grace Chapel in Hillcrest with Gary Jephcott and Michael Shipley speaking. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. Howard graduated from Perryton High School in 1967, and then attended Oklahoma State University. While in Oklahoma, he met Karen Grace, and on May 15, 1970, they were married in Forgan, OK. They moved to Littlefield, where he worked for GTE and their successors, Verizon, Valor, and Windstream for 38 years. He retired in October 2006. He spent many years volunteering as a coach for Little Dribbler’s, Pee Wee Baseball and even women’s softball. He also helped out with the local Girl Scouts organization. He enjoyed being a competitive bowler, and won several championships. He is survived by his two daughters, Janell Oyler and husband, John of Lubbock and Jayka Varner and partner, Michael Saldana of Lubbock; grandchildren, Melody and John Howard Oyler, and Charles Eugene, Breana, Zachary and Orion; two brothers, Roger and Mary Varner and Roy Dean and Alma Varner; and many extended family and friends. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 45 years, Karen Varner who passed away May 15, 2015; his parents; a sister, Geneva Varner Arganbright; and a niece, Christina Ann Varner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
