Billie Wallace Brooke, 88, of Littlefield, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at Harmonee House in Amherst. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at First Baptist Church in Littlefield, with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield. Billie Wallace Brooke was born Oct. 15, 1925 in Mineola, Texas to James Owen Brooke and Carrie Ann Stagner Brooke. His brother, Jack Brooke, preceded him in death. Bill and his family moved to Lamb County in 1928. He went to school at Amherst, and graduated with the Class of 1943. He was drafted into the army in 1944 and served in the 103rd Infantry Division in Europe. Bill lived with his parents until their deaths: his father in 1957 and his mother in 1983. He worked as a machinist for many years in Littlefield for VTS, specializing in irrigation pump repair. Because of that work, he was well connected with the farming industry and was always interested in seeing how the crops were doing. He was a member of First Baptist Church Littlefield for 56 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sound technician for many years. He was a highly-respected man of faith, and his church family was very important to him. He married Colleen Tow in February 1990 and they had 17 happy years together until her death in 2007. Along with a wife, Bill acquired a family, which included daughter, Betty Griffin and husband, Les, of Plainvie;, a son, Malcolm Tow, deceased; 3 grandchildren; and 6 greatgrandchildren. He is survived by his nephews, Jack Brooke and wife, Kay, of The Woodlands, Texas and Jim Brooke and wife, Jo Beth, of Rowlette, Texas.
