Grandes Churchman

Grandes Eddings Churchman, 97, of Littlefield died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield. Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, at Crescent Park Church of Christ in Littlefield, with Jim Harris officiating. Burial followed in Littlefield Memorial Park, with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. Grandes was born June 16, 1916 in Willis, Okla., and was one of 16 children. Not many people can say that they made one of their first trips in a covered wagon and that one of their last trips was a Caribbean cruise. She was married to Ronald Eddings for over 50 years and L. V. Churchman for about 8 years. She was a resident of Littlefield for many years. Her family was involved in farming and she worked various jobs throughout her life. Grandes enjoyed many hobbies, including quilting, gardening, was an avid reader, loved playing Canasta with her sisters, and especially enjoyed cooking family dinners. There was nothing that compared to one of her chocolate pies. Her family was her pride and joy. All loved her. As a special tribute to her honor, all her children and grandchildren were present for her 90th birthday. Grandes was a member of Crescent Park Church of Christ. She loved her church family and was always willing to help anywhere she could. She especially loved the ladies’ Bible Class and looked forward to attending the weekly classes. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Ronald Eddings and L. V. Churchman; a grandson, Kyle Eddings; and 12 siblings. Grandes is survived by three sons, Johnny Eddings and wife, Wyleta, of Northglenn, Colo., Richard Eddings and wife, Kathy, of Littlefield, and Benny Eddings and wife, Pat, of Gypsum, Colo.; a daughter, Barbara Mote and husband, Darryl, of Happy; three step-children, L. V. Churchman and wife, Belle, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Raymond Churchman and wife, Paula, of Amarillo, and Mona Carpenter and husband, Tom, of Palm Coast, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 24 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
