Service for Norman Hinchliffe, 89, of Earth, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Fe. 6, 2014 at the Earth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charlie Johnson of Earth officiating. Burial will be in Earth Memorial Cemetery, with Ellis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Norman passed away Feb. 2, 2014 in Lubbock. Norman was born Feb. 1, 1925 in Mexia, Texas to David and Mary Jane (Guthrie) Hinchlif. He married Jerry Applegate in Hamilton, Texas on July 19, 1952. Norman was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater as a Staff Sergeant for the United States Army. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University in 1949. He moved from Plainview to Earth in 1960. Norman was a joint owner/operator of Earth Ag Supply. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Earth and was a past president and member of the Earth Lions Club. He also served as a past president and member of the Springlake-Earth School Board. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Jerry; two sons, David Hinchliffe of Sundown, and Jason Hinchliffe and his wife, Jennifer, of Amarillo; two daughters, Karen Hinchliffe of Dallas, and Camille Gilliam and her husband, Rick, of Lubbock; one sister, Margaret Hinchliffe of Irving; one brother, Maurice Hinchliffe and his wife, Jewel, of Mexia; one grandson, Alex Gilliam; three step-grandchildren, Alex Clark, Megan Clark and Zac Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.
