Hollis Cain, Sr., 95, of Olton, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in Olton. Funeral services were held Monday morning, Jan. 27, at the First Baptist Church in Springlake with Pastor Glenn Harlin officiating. Interment followed in Springlake Cemetery, with Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton in charge of arrangements. Hollis was born Oct. 13, 1918 in Belmont, Miss. to Largus Kirk Cain and Leona Mann Cain. He married Ona V. Rinks on March 17, 1940. He attended college briefly on a basketball scholarship before he deployed to serve in the U.S. Army under General Patton in WWII. He was wounded twice and received a purple heart. After being discharged, he worked at US Steel in Birmingham for more than 30 years. He and Ona lived in Pleasant Grove, AL and he served as an alderman for 26 years. He was appointed as Mayor for one term and went on to be elected for another term. Hollis and Ona were faithful members of the Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove where he served as a deacon and deacon emeritus. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pleasant Grove and received a 50-year pin. They followed their son to Texas and moved to Sandhills Village in Olton in March of 2006 and to Runningwater Draw Care Center in 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Orville, Kenneth, and Travis Cain; and sisters, Cleo and Stella. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Ona Cain of Olton; a son, Hollis H. Cain, Jr. of Springlake; a brother, Lex Cain; and sister, Vaudie Mitchell; granddaughters, Cathy Hill and husband, Johnny, of Austin, Connie Burt and husband, Mitchel, of Littlefield, and Suzanne Reese and husband, Ryan, of Earth; and 16 greatgrandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Hill, Mary, Bradley, Rebecca, Joseph, David, Andrew, Abigail, Lydia, J.T., Jaden, Charlie Jo, and Lily Burt; and Bonnie and Jack Reese.
