Billy Joe Thomas

Services for Billy Joe Thomas, 68, of Temple, formerly of Littlefield, who died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 in Temple, were held  Friday, Jan. 17, in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Temple. Interment was in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Killeen, with Hornsby-Murcherson Funeral Home of Temple in charge of arrangements. He was born July 22, 1945 in Winters, Tex., to the now late Arthur Thomas and Willie Mae Simmons Thomas. He attended Littlefield schools, and after high school, he joined the Marine Corps, where he received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. After returning from service, he earned a degree in Gemology, and became a certified jeweler. At an early age, he joined the Irvin Street First Baptist Church in Littlefield, and later became a deacon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Temple. He also served in men’s ministry, choir, prayer outreach, and sick visitation ministry. He married Mary Davis, and later, after her death, he married Lee Anna Reed in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; Willie Lewis, Walter Lewis and Izear Lewis; and a sister, Josephine Simmons. Surviving are his wife, Lee Anna Thomas of Temple; his children, Gurthrie Lee Thomas of Lewisville, Carlton Joe Thomas of Cedar Hill, Victor S. Davis of Lubbock, Yelonda Louise Amundson of Cedar 
Hill, Toni Denise Jordan of Douglasville, Ga.; two step-sons, Michael Reed and Christopher  Fountain, both of Lubbock; four sisters, Alice Willard and Ella Mae Johnson, both of Littlefield, Merlene Williams of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Nancy Willis of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
