Garland Patterson, 88, of Littlefield died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 in Littlefield Nursing and Rehab in Littlefield. Graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 in Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield. Burial followed in Littlefield Memorial Park, with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. Garland was born Dec. 25, 1925 in Devol, Okla., to Alfred and Edith Patterson. After high school, he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he married Helen Hurt on April 17, 1948 in Littlefield. They farmed in the Spade community until 1966 when they moved to the Texas Panhandle where they continued farming until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, they moved back to Littlefield in 1996 so that they could be closer to their family. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, sitting on his back porch visiting with his family and friends, or watching his great-grandkids and Dachshunds playing. Garland loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He was a loving and devoted husband, daddy, and Papa who took great pride in and joy from his family. All will truly miss him. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen Patterson of Littlefield; two daughters, Derenda Shewbert and husband, Ken, of Boerne, and Teresa Gates and husband,Tracy, of Hartley; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
