Funeral service for Eleuterio P. Gauna, 82, of Earth, who died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 in Earth, was held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, 2013 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Father Leo Pahamtang of Muleshoe, officiated. Burial was in Earth Memorial Cemetery. Gauna was born Feb. 20, 1931 in Westoff, Texas to Ysabel and Natividad Gauna. He married Maria S. Tamez in San Juan, Texas on Dec. 27, 1953. He moved to the Earth Community from Illinois in 1948. He was known as an expert at making hot sauce. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, where he was a Communion Minister, a Crusista, and prayed for others. He was also a coin collector coins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Stacy Saenz and Justin Rosalez. Surviving are his wife, Maria; five sons, Ricardo Gauna and wife, Maureen, of Rockwall, George Gauna and wife, Josie, of Shallowater, Rene Gauna and wife, Robin, of Lubbock, Ruben Gauna and wife, Anita, of Dimmitt, Eleuteria Jr. Gauna and wife, Isabel, of Alaska; five daughters, Rosie Garza and husband, Rey, of Childress, Eva Saenz and husband, Victor, of Dimmitt, Elma Gauna and fiance, Michael Koite of Sylacauga, Alabama, Yolanda Gauna and husband, Adrian Everett, of Plainview, and Christina Villalon and husband, Michael, of Floydada; four sisters; two brothers; 32 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 806 East Hwy 70, Earth, Texas, 79031.
