Maria Cordero

Maria Cordero, 96, of Olton, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in Olton. Rosary was said Sunday night, Nov. 3, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olton. Mass was celebrated Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Smith as celebrant. Interment was in Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Maria was born Feb. 24, 1917 in Melvin, Texas to Apolonio and Sapopa Rodriguez Luera. She married Doroteo Cordero in 1945 in Plainview and moved to Olton in 1947. As a member of the Guadalupanas and the Crusillistas, Mary was active at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and volunteered at Runningwater Draw Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doroteo, in 2006; a grandson, Tomas Hernandez in 1984; one brother; and three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Doel Cordero and his wife, Hilary, of Dumas, Doroteo Cordero, Jr. and his wife, Margie, of Edinburg, and David Munos and his wife, Lucy, of Lubbock, two daughters, Rosalinda Hernandez of McAllen and Dorothy LaFuente and her husband, Pete, of Brady; one brother, Apolonio Luera, Jr. of Olton; and four sisters, Jessie Valles of San Angelo, Delia Balderama of Ft. Worth, Sally Pedroza of Olton, and Josephine Gonzales of Ft. Worth. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
